A new third-party 1/100 Acguy Thunderbolt Ver. model kit has started generating discussion in the Gunpla community, not only because fans are excited to see the design receive a physical release, but also because of conversations surrounding unofficial Gunpla model kits, fan demand, and the continued absence of an official Bandai release for one of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt’s most recognizable mobile suit designs.

The kit is being promoted as a 1/100 scale twin pack, meaning builders would receive two Acguy units in one box. Retail listings describe the model as being based on the MSM-04 Acguy Thunderbolt Ver., the heavily redesigned version of the classic Zeon amphibious mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt.

For many fans, the appeal is easy to understand. The Thunderbolt Acguy has been a fan-favorite design for years, but Bandai has never released a proper official Gunpla version of it. That absence has led to ongoing interest in the design, and a third-party company now appears to be offering an alternative option for builders.

The situation gained additional attention after Yasuo Ohtagaki, the creator of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, commented on the kit. Ohtagaki reportedly said he learned about the model through a friend and questioned whether it had been officially authorized. He also expressed disappointment because he had long hoped to see the Thunderbolt Acguy released as an official Gunpla kit.

Ohtagaki’s comments highlight his interest in seeing these mobile suits receive official model kit releases. While many builders are enthusiastic about the opportunity to build a Thunderbolt Acguy kit, the product does not appear to be an official Bandai release, prompting discussion about licensing status and how unofficial products fit within the broader hobby.

This also reflects a broader trend in the Gunpla hobby. Third-party companies have become more active, and some are producing detailed kits that attract significant attention.

The Thunderbolt Acguy situation also demonstrates the strong demand for additional official Bandai kits. Fans have been requesting more kits for years, especially designs that have never received dedicated releases. Ohtagaki later reaffirmed that he still hopes Bandai will officially turn more Thunderbolt mobile suits into Gunpla so fans and creators can enjoy them through official products.

Whether fans choose to support the third-party kit or wait for an official release, one thing is clear: demand for more Gunpla kits remains high. The Acguy Thunderbolt Ver. may be a small mobile suit in-universe, but the discussion surrounding its release has had a noticeable impact within the hobby.
