Odaiba’s Life-Size Unicorn Gundam Receives Its Final Ceremony

Odaiba’s Life-Size Unicorn Gundam Statue received its official final ceremony on August 29, 2026, bringing fans together ahead of the landmark’s approaching closure.

Despite rainy weather, a large crowd assembled outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza to commemorate the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam’s nearly nine-year stay in Tokyo. The statue began operating in September 2017 and became internationally recognized for its transformation between Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode, illuminated Psycho-Frame and synchronized WALL-G presentations.

The ceremony featured a special performance by composer Hiroyuki Sawano and singer SennaRin. Sawano provided the music for Mobile Suit Gundam UC and Mobile Suit Gundam NT, along with the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway films. Voice actor Genki Okawa hosted the event.

The statue and DiverCity’s WALL-G projection system were then used for “UNICORN GUNDAM Statue — BEYOND POSSIBILITY —,” a special presentation created for the finale. Fireworks accompanied the closing celebration as fans applauded and called out their thanks to the Unicorn Gundam.

For its final weeks, the statue has appeared as the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL, wearing special markings designed by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki.

Although the farewell ceremony has concluded, the statue has not been removed yet. Its public exhibition continues through August 31, 2026, with the limited nighttime presentations also scheduled to run through the final day.

Bandai has not officially announced what (if anything) will replace the Unicorn Gundam at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza. Until that changes, any claims about a successor statue should be treated as speculation.

The Life-Size Unicorn Gundam followed Odaiba’s original RX-78-2 statue and became more than a promotional display. For visitors from around the world, its transformation, music and towering presence made it a physical symbol of the Gundam franchise.

The ceremony may be over, but fans still have one final opportunity to stand beneath the RX-0 before its nearly nine-year mission in Odaiba officially ends.
