Bandai Reveals the Ultimate Gundam Mk-II Collectible With 2,500 Parts

Bandai Spirits has officially revealed the METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (AEUG), giving one of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam’s most important mobile suits an incredibly detailed mechanical treatment.

Standing approximately 310 mm tall, or just over 12 inches, the completed Gundam Mk-II is constructed from roughly 2,500 individual parts using ABS, PVC, and die-cast materials. However, the real highlight is what Bandai has recreated underneath the armor.

The Gundam Mk-II was an extremely important machine in Universal Century mobile suit development due to its use of the Movable Frame, which integrated much of the mobile suit’s structure and mechanisms into an internal frame rather than relying on the armor to serve as part of the machine’s structural support.

Bandai takes full advantage of that history with the figure’s Full Maintenance Mode. Armor panels across the Mk-II can be opened to expose its internal construction, while the chest can be raised to reveal the spherical cockpit. The lower legs even feature extending frame mechanisms that interact with the opening thruster sections.

The dedicated maintenance base takes things even further. Work arms can be positioned around the Mk-II as if engineers were actively servicing the mobile suit, while built in lighting and miniature figures help demonstrate just how massive an 18 meter class mobile suit would actually be.

Bandai has also created an original High Mobility Combat Mode specifically for the KAITAI-SHOU-KI version. In this configuration, the backpack thrusters change position while armor panels across the mobile suit open in a configuration designed to resemble increased heat dissipation.

Its equipment includes the Mk-II’s beam rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Vulcan Pod System, shield, spare E-packs, bazooka ammunition, and beam effect parts. Bandai even included subtle references to the machine’s history, with portions underneath the AEUG armor retaining dark-blue Titans coloring and the shield depicting a painted over Titans emblem.

The METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI Gundam Mk-II (AEUG) is scheduled for release in January 2027 with a Japanese retail price of ¥137,500. Preorders opened August 27.
